ABOUT IMPERIAL AIRWAYS
No airline has ever evoked so much interest and admiration artistically as well as strategically, than Imperial Airways. The company formed the foundation and bedrock of British commercial long range air transport history and operated from 1924 to 1939 and served Europe via British Empire routes to South Africa, India and the Far East (later including Malaya and Hong Kong). Local partnership companies included Qantas as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Ltd operating from Australia and TEAL Tasman Empire Airways Ltd operating from New Zealand.

The company merged into British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) in 1939 which later merged with British European Airways Corporation to form the British Airways of today.

ABOUT THE ARTIST. Albert Brenet was born in 1903. He was schooled at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. Afterwards, he sailed to the West Indies where he honed his talents sketching and painting ships, exotic ports and the lives of crew members. His latter day travel posters covered many transatlantic companies such as Imperial Airways, capturing the thrill and splendor of early air travel.
Today his work is something of an icon for collectors of aviation work around the world. He died in 2005.
