Imperial Airways was the early British commercial long range air transport company, operating from 1924 to 1939 and serving parts of Europe but principally the British Empire routes to South Africa, India and the Far East, including Malaya and Hong Kong. Local partnership companies were Qantas (Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Ltd) in Australia and TEAL (Tasman Empire Airways Ltd) in New Zealand.

ABOUT THE ARTIST. Recreated from scans of the original poster the series reproduces the work of Albert Brenet on fine British procelain mugs. Born in 1903, Brenet was schooled at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. Afterwards, he sailed to the West Indies where he honed his talents sketching and painting ships, exotic ports and the lives of crew members. His latter day travel posters covered many transatlantic companies such as Imperial Airways, capturing the thrill and splendor of early air travel.
Today his work is something of an icon for collectors of aviation work around the world. He died in 2005.
