- ABOUT THE DH MOTH
The de Havilland Moths were a series of light aircraft and sports planes and military trainers designed by Geoffrey de Havilland. In the late 1920s and 1930s they were the most common civil aircraft flying in Britain and during that time every light aircraft flying in the UK was commonly referred to as a 'Moth' regardless of whether it was de Havilland-built.

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER. E. J. Riding spent his working life in the aviation industry. Apprenticed to A. V. Roe & Company as aircraft engineer. During the war Riding became an AID Inspector seconded to Fairey Aviation, London Aircraft Production and the de Havilland Aircraft Company; signing out Halifax bombers and Mosquitoes as airworthy. Sadly, Riding was killed in a flying accident in 1950.
